Leckhampstead Church Restoration Appeal

The Church Today

St James has recently successfully completed two phases of a 10-year plan to repair and rejuvenate the church.  Phase 1, the restoration of the front porch and boundary wall was completed in 2018.  Phase 2 replaced the church roof and resolved major structural movement in the building and was completed in May 2021. The building has since been removed from the National Risk Register.

The Restoration Appeal

The Restoration Appeal is the final phase of the ten-year plan. The objective is to install a modern efficient heating system, flexible seating, improved accessibility, a toilet, kitchen servery and gallery. The project will be completed in 2 stages with the aim to start works in early 2023. The Appeal is managed by the Restoration Committee who coordinate and manage grant and Trust applications and local fundraising events, including staging the Happy Circus on 7th May 2022.

The Project Benefits

The addition of these facilities will rejuvenate the church’s role in serving the local and wider community.  This will broaden styles of worship and improve community spirit and cohesion as the church will be able to host both large and small events. The improvements will allow the church, in conjunction with the local village hall, to meet the needs of the community for concerts, youth clubs, meetings and social gatherings. They will improve comfort, accessibility and provide the necessary facilities such as kitchen and toilets whilst reducing operational and maintenance costs. The improvements to the church will benefit the whole community and ensure that our church remains an integral part of our rural life for generations to come.
