St James Church was alive with music, laughter, and community spirit on Friday evening as locals turned out in force for the church’s summer fundraiser, Pop-Up-Pub & Rockaoke. The event, held within the atmospheric church building, brought together people of all ages for an unforgettable night of entertainment and fundraising.
The church was packed with supporters from across the village and beyond, drawn in by the promise of live music, a lively Rockaoke session, and locally sourced refreshments. The live band, led by none other than Rev Mike himself, set the tone for the evening, delivering an upbeat set that had toes tapping and hands clapping from the start.
Rockaoke—karaoke with a live band—proved a big hit, as brave singers stepped up to the mic to perform their favourite rock classics. The audience voted for their standout performers, with prizes awarded to both the top adult and child singers of the night. The mix of musical talent and enthusiastic participation created a joyous, festival-like atmosphere under the ancient beams of the church.
No pub night would be complete without great drinks and food, and the event delivered on both fronts. Guests enjoyed a selection of craft ales courtesy of The Indigenous Brewery and Arkell’s Brewery, while the cocktail of the month—refreshing, fruity Sangria—added a summer vibe to the evening. Hot dogs were served fresh throughout the night, keeping everyone well fed and ready to sing.
The fundraiser was a tremendous success, not just in terms of turnout and enjoyment, but in raising essential funds for the ongoing upkeep of St James Church and the village graveyard.
A heartfelt thank you goes to everyone who attended, performed, voted, poured pints, cooked hot dogs, and supported the event in countless ways. Your generosity and energy made Pop-Up-Pub & Rockaoke a memorable night and a shining example of what this community can achieve together.
